Valentines Day is one of the most romantic days of the year. People use this day to give their loved ones gifts. There are many different stories of how Valentines Day started. One story says that Valentine was a priest during the third century in Rome. He was ordered to be put to death by Claudius 11 because after he outlawed marriages for young men, who will eventually become part of the army. But Valentine keeps performing secret marriages for young lovers. But when Claudius 11 found out he put Valentine in jail and while he was in jail he wrote love letters to his jailors daughter and at the end of the letters he signed it “from your valentine”
Another story was February 14th was a holiday to honor Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia. The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.
