Third time’s the charm is the saying that goes along with the Bulldogs Wing-T offense. Willow Springs ended up with the victory with a score of 40-20 but didn’t get away completely untouched.

The Bulldogs, who had no luck during their first two games where they used the new offense pulled it together and scored three touchdowns, one of which also produced a two-point conversion.

“We played really well. We knew their quarterback was good, so we played a lot of blitz plays to try and stop him,” said senior Elliot Easterly. “The problem was that we only sacked him twice.”

During the game, the Bulldogs made some solid running and passing plays that scored the Bulldogs three touchdowns and one two point conversion. However, despite the improved offense, the Bulldogs still need some work on the defensive side of the game.

“We stepped up our offense, but our defense still needs work,” said senior Zach Pirwitz. “Plus, we weren’t ready for the return of their star running back.”

Pirwitz completed a pass thrown by quarterback Travis Liles to score the second touch down in the first half for the Bulldogs ,putting the Bulldogs within 10 of Willow Springs before the half.

However, Willow Springs still won the football game 40-20 indicating that something still isn’t quite right with the Wing-T.

“For the Wing-T to work, the line men have to do what they’re supposed to do,” said coach Steve Forbis. “The linemen aren’t getting to their spots fast enough to stop the flow, the Wing-T uses motion to throw off the opposing teams defense, but if the line isn’t blocking, the motion of the Wing-T does no good.”
