Wrapping Christmas Gifts for Children: Christmas for the Children
Advertising
Every year for about 20 years or more, the Kawanis Club has participated in buying Christmas gifts for the children in the Christiansburg community who wouldn’t have a successful Christmas. These items range from Barbie dolls, to action figures and bicycles to skateboards; clothing is a separate item for each child. The children each year are invited to St. Paul’s Church downtown Christiansburg where a dinner is held. This is usually a pizza party for the families. Santa comes to give the little boys and girls a sack of toys filled with many items to try to make their Christmas a wonderful holiday.

The students in Mrs. Beller’s Childhood Education Program have wrapped and put the gifts in decorated black bags with a traditional bow around them. They have two days to organize and complete this task. There are large items that the kids receive but they aren’t wrapped. The children range from around ages 4 to 12. Forty Four Children receive these bags filled with goodies a week before Christmas. The Kawanis Club does all the shopping on Saturdays from 11pm to 2 am. Mrs. Beller made the statement, “each year the students here at CHS have a fun experience with this activity, and they enjoy it. The students listen to Christmas music and wrap gifts till they are complete.” Mrs. Beller is hoping next year will be a continued success. She is looking forward to helping those in need.
