Spanish literature students at Arroyo got a chance to experience a day in a college life at Cal Poly Pomona. It all started off with two alumni; Maria Azpeitia and Elke Azpeitia from Arroyo High School and former students of Mr. Lopez who attended Cal Poly. “They wanted to return things back to Arroyo, so they decided to create a day for Spanish literature students,” said Mr. Lopez.
The students had a chance to experience a classroom environment with real college professors. “Students were able to see different subjects and at the same time they were able to have presentations by the admission office and also the financial aid office directly from Cal Poly,” said Mr. Lopez. Unfortunately, this great opportunity is only available for Spanish literature students. This amazing program gives students a chance to study any subject they like, not necessarily Spanish.  “In the past, we had people take Philosophy, Literature, Engineering and Sociology,” said Mr. Lopez.
This field trip gives students a chance to experience what its like in college and its classroom environment. Students were also given opportunity to experience the college social life. “The whole point of the field trip was to show kids what’s college like and what college professors are like and they could make it to college if they choose to,” said Mr. Lopez.
The Spanish literature students at Arroyo went to Cal Poly on February 29.  “I thought the field trip was a nice experience and we had a lot of information about admissions and what classes we need in order to go to Cal State. Yeah, it was really nice and I liked it,” said senior Jacqueline Alcala.
‘’I thought it was a really big and nice campus, the first time we went, we didn’t get a big tour but the second time, we were able to see the classrooms,” said junior Montserrat Medina. As an extra bonus with all the fun they had learning about the college, many students seemed to be intrigued with the food that was served at Cal Poly. “The food they had there was really nice, I would considered going there,” said Montserrat.
The Spanish literature students at Arroyo were really thankful for the great opportunity that Cal Poly offered them. “I thought it was really nice that we were given the opportunity to go and see how it is like in a college class,” said junior Esmeralda Perez. “The teachers were really nice and I’m really thankful that they took the time to teach us,” said Medina.
