On Wednesday, September 26, the boys Varsity Water Polo team had a tremendous win over the Santa Maria Saints, 15-7. It was the guys first league win and a very important win because it was a step towards going to CIF as said by Coach Hicks.

The teams Co-Captains are Seniors Brad Deegan and Ryan Lynch, who were two of the top scorers during this game. Both Brad Deegan and Kyle Pickles scored 5 goals and made 5 steals for the team, with 3 goals and 5 steals made by Lynch, and 2 scores made by Carl Thaker. Goalie Kyle Thumm didn’t do so bad himself with 12 blocks. This may have been the teams first league game, but they had already been in the Thousand Oaks tournament and the Buena tournament, in which they played against many well ranked teams to get ready for CIF. Coach Hicks hopes that the team can get at least 3rd place in league and to make to CIF. The team has already played 5 teams that are CIF ranked and he feels that if they can beat Santa Maria and Morro Bay that they will make it to CIF. Coach Hicks said, “I know that two of the strongest team in the league would be Santa Ynez and Cabrillo” and added,” We want to be able to give them a good game.” Overall he feels that this year’s team has good potential, but need to work on placing the ball better and to improve with every game. He said, “They’re an extremely coachable group, a lot of fun, and do not quit trying, they give 100% each time.” It looks like this years season of Water Polo will definitely bee one to watch, so don’t miss out and go support the team.
