We’ve all been there. It’s the day before Halloween (or even the day of) and there is no costume in your closet. Wal-Mart is a wasteland of broken fairy wings and outdated President masks. What is there to do? It’s easy! There are plenty of costumes you can come up with from scratch. They may not be the highest quality, but they’re costumes all the same. The first and most classic costume is the Sheet-ghost. Take a sheet (ask your mother first, and make sure it doesn’t have print on it), cut eye holes (in the right places), and throw it over. Bam! You’re a spooky ghostie! Okay, okay, not creative enough? Get a plain white t-shirt and an old pair of jeans, rip them up, splatter them with red fabric paint, and get some cheap face paints. Those ingredients can conjure up an easy murder victim or murderer outfit (the difference between the two is adding dark circles around the eyes for the dead person). And for you gutsy boys out there, it doesn’t hurt to get into your mom’s closet, find a hideous dress, and cover yourself in make-up. That’ll scare anyone. And when worse comes to worst (a.k.a, you have to leave for a costume party in five minutes) grab a hooded jacket and a pair of sunglasses to arrive as the uni-bomber. Anything’s possible when you get into an old wardrobe. But then again, if you start planning now, you can always get one of those 50 dollar packaged outfits by next Halloween. Even though, many of us are still bound to be cutting holes in an old bed sheet at 6 o’clock on that spooky night next year.
