Our basketball season is one of the exciting times of the year. There’s nothing like a packed gym of students, staff, and families enjoying a good game that our amazing boy’s basketball team never fails to put on. Last year we had a couple ecstatic heart pounding games where with two seconds left the ball swished in. the boys lost the Kobe Bryant of our school Jordan O’Byrne but this year will have a couple key seniors such as Trae Vernon Isaac Moreno Jake Morehart and who could forget Rijo Jackson. The journey to C.I.F begins in January. And Trae Vernon to give us the inside scoop of what we should be looking forward to this season. When asked, last year you had a heck of a season tying first in league now that Jordan is gone who can we be expecting to step up? Trae says that "Richie Hirzel should be back this year and Jake should be stepping up, as well as himself. They also have a transfer from Vegas so it should be a fun year. I asked him; what do you think it takes to be a successful team? "Hard work, determination, and trust within each other. He’s hoping to achieve this season "ultimately a league championship and any other personal awards would be extra; I’m just worried about the team. When asked as seniors you’re expected to step up and lead by example, what is one message you’d like to send to upcoming players? "Do well in the classroom so you can stay on the court and when you step on the court be ready to work. What’s the key to defending your league title? "Remaining humble and taking it one day at a time never underestimating any team and always doing our best. Coach Sherman was one enthusiastic fired up person, what’s one thing he’s taught you that you apply not only on the court but also in your life? "He taught me to be humble and to give god all glory." What is the proudest moment of your basketball career? "Winning league last year and doing well enough as a team to win my dad coach of the year for his last year." What about a quote that motivates you to keep going? "be ye steadfast immovable always abounding and knowing that your work in the lord is not in vain" 1st Corinthians 15:58 " the quote means no matter what never give up what your doing for god is never a loss cause. Well were all eager for the 2010 basketball season and can’t wait to see what the season has in store.
