Homecoming is coordinated by the SGA. Ms. Dana Birdin sponsors the SGA, and the President is Toni Aluko. Every day of Spirit Week has a different theme, and Homecoming has one main theme. This year’s Homecoming theme is ‘A Night on the Town’. “Each class gets to pick a city they’re interested in,” says Toni Aluko, SGA president. Spirit Week themes are: Pajama Day, Mardi Gras Day, Wacky Wednesday, Blast from the Past Thursday and School Colors day. You’re probably wondering, how do they pick the Homecoming & Spirit Week themes? “Spirit week is mostly what we’ve done before,” says Aluko, “The days that have had good turnouts we use, and days that weren’t as good, we try to make up better ideas that will get more people involved.” According to Aluko, everyone has their own section of homecoming to deal with. Another very important part of Spirit Week is the Pep Rally. In fact, many people consider the Pep Rally to be their favorite part. “Pep rallies are the best part because all the classes are together, I get to be loud, and it’s just fun,” says junior, Kristin Kelly. The Pep Rally is when all the school classes are together and get to “represent” their graduation class. “It gets everybody hyped up and ready for Homecoming,” says Kelly. According to Aluko, it takes the SGA about two weeks to get everything together and plan for Spirit Week, and this year they’ll have more time for last minute issues since there are two half days during the week. These half days won’t cause an issue though because, “everything will still go on and the day will still have a theme and contest, everything will just be cut back,” Aluko assures. Since this is Aluko’s year as SGA President she’s hoping things will be better than usual: “with a new group of officers, we all have a lot to contribute, we’re all very diverse in our thinking and we’re learning to work together and efficiently because of the lunch period.” She adds, “also, I’m trying to emphasize more school involvement with SGA, instead of just me and the officers.” According to SGA sponsor Birdin, without her officers: Toni Aluko, Austin Bogus, Brittany Macklin, Jacqui Shelton, and Inwoo Chung, none of this would be possible. As you can see, everyone involved with its development works very hard to make sure Paint Branch has a wonderful Spirit Week..
