Football isn’t the only sport pulling out a crowd these days. On Friday, September 25, the Varsity Boys’ Soccer game versus Sherwood brought out a crowd to fill the stands for their much anticipated start at 5 p.m.
Expected to be a one-sided game in favor of Sherwood, it turned out to be a one- goal game as the teams fought hard in a 2-1 Sherwood win.
Sherwood took an early lead when the first goal was shot in the first half. Despite the solid defense from Paint Branch, Sherwood managed to play on Paint Branch’s half and, after many attempts, scored a goal. Junior goalie Billy Brady of Paint Branch caught eight saves before the end of first half.
Junior Miles Rehwoldlt scored Paint Branch’s first goal, when Senior Eduardo Sartor passed him the ball to punt in and score the goal. The one-on-one shot taken by Rehwoldlt against the Sherwood goalie brought everyone to their feet for tying the game early in the second half.
After six saves by Senior Jamal Harns, the goalkeeper, Sherwood finally broke the tie and went into the lead with another goal shortly after Paint Branch scored to tie it.
As the half wore on, the possibility of overtime quickly came with Senior Allen King heading the ball into what seemed like a goal that was in-the-bag, but his attempt was kicked out, mid-air, by Sherwood. The score of 2-1 remained until the end of the game and closed off the second home game of the boys’ soccer season.
