Duck pajama pants tacky tourist’s layers of madness blast-to-the past maroon and gold? That’s right, it was Spirit Week at Paint Branch where everyone grabbed everything in their closet, and showed some school spirit.
Monday kicked off the week with Pajama Day, which includes fluffy slippers, teddy bears, and of course pajamas. Some wore feety pajamas, while others wore regular cotton pants with their favorite cartoon characters such as, SpongeBob, Stewie Griffin, and Hello Kitty. At LAP there was a late-to-school relay that featured students doing numerous silly things including the Macarena. Other students laughed and cheered as their classmates competed in the relay.
The second day of fun was Tacky Tourist day, when students and teachers wore items such as a Hawaiian shirt, glasses, a camera held on a strip, and a tourist hat. Some students went that extra mile to even make fake passports. Tuesday at LAP, there was a luau competition that featured students doing the limbo to earn special prizes.
It’ colorful, it’s ridiculous, it’s tacky, and you guessed it, it’s Wacky Wednesday. From crazy big hats, to shorts over pants, to funny hair wigs and layers of messy wild clothing, it was all wacky. “It’s fun to dress up colorful and crazy,” said 10th grader Kayla Jemmot. “It’s my favorite part of the week.” At lunch, a fashion show occurred and students with the best costumes strutted down a red runway made out of paper. Bursts of laughter came from students at the cafeteria tables, while some boys wore their girly outfits like dresses and skirts.
Next, Throwback Thursday gave people a chance to wear an outfit from back in the day. Some students had fun with this day by bringing a boom box and dressing like old rap groups, like wearing clothes backwards to imitate Kriss Kross, or an Addidas suit and glasses to dress up like Run DMC. Some girls dressed up like hippies and wore sweat suit jackets and leggings. The event held in the cafeteria on Thursday was a pie - eating contest. Contestants had to eat pie without any hands and the entrant who finished his or her pie first won. The winner’s prize was a gift card.
The last day of Spirit Week was Paint Branch School Colors Day when people proudly wore burgundy and gold. Face painting, Panther shirts and crazy hair were just some of the ways people represented our school. Following in the school spirit, the pep rally, held at the end of the day, brought everyone to life. Try to imagine hundreds of people piled onto bleachers and cheering their class’s graduation years. “The pep rally was crazy,” said 9th grader Kelly Wilkins. The pep rally featured a relay and the announcing of the homecoming princes and princesses for grades 9-11.
