little by a steady rain that fell the whole day. However, students and staff still managed to have an enjoyable time at the farm, with the use of facilities such as mini-golf, volleyball, basketball hoops, and a DJ.

Also held was a class meeting in one of the pavilions. A representative from the Herf Jones company was in attendance and discussed issues such as caps and gowns. Seniors also received information about key upcoming events and voted for senior superlatives.

“Senior Unity Day brought together the senior class as a unit and was an extension for them to get more involved,” said Mrs. Mitchell, the senior class sponsor. Before last year, a senior breakfast had been held, where information was given out. However, it was decided last year that a day-long event would be more enjoyable and result in a better experience.

Mrs. Mitchell and senior class President Anita Isama, as well as officers Stephanie Pratt, Janet Waema, and Erika Kiah, all had major contributions to pull off the successful event. “I want the senior class to understand how hard the officers are working, but they still could use your help,” said Mrs. Mitchell.

One new idea this year was the raffling off of five gift baskets in various themes, such as a sports basket with box seat tickets to a Washington Mystics game and tickets to Paint Branch football games, and Homecoming and date-themed baskets with tickets and gift certificates to restaurants and movie theaters.

“The purpose of Senior Unity Day was to give seniors a chance to have a day where they could just enjoy being new seniors,” said Kiah, the senior class Treasurer. “It was a good chance to eat, listen to good music, and have fun with other classmates.” Many seniors also felt that the trip was a big success. “I thought that it was a good experience because we got to interact with each other and have fun like we can’t do in school,” said Ben Tylka.

The senior class photo was also taken before students left for the rest of the day’s activities.
