While the Scary Movie series is not for everyone, fans of simple or toilet humor with a bit of intellectual humor (and I mean just a bit) sprinkled on will enjoy Scary Movie 4 which greatly outshines two of its three preceeding counterparts. The direction was taken over by David Zucker, and not a single bit of Wayans brothers' direction remained (they abandoned it by the 3rd film). David Zucker is a well known co-director of such cult comedy favorites as Airplane! and the Naked Gun series.

Zucker's prior influences and experiences with subtle humor mixed in with the more prominent ideas is clearly visible in every scene of the movie. Unlike the first three movies the fourth isn't all toilet humor (although there is still a good measure of it), and not all of the movie pertained to making fun of scary movies. While five different movies were frequently dipped into (War of the Worlds, The Grudge, Brokeback Mountain, Saw and The Village), Zucker did not limit the feature film to those five. Zucker even dared to spoof a certain Commander in Chief who was sitting in a kindergarten class listening to a book about a duck being read. When he was told by the Secret Service that there was a world crisis, he refused to go saying “I want to see what happens to the duck”.

There was one low point of the movie where Zucker seemed to miss the mark. A completely humorless spoof of Million Dollar Baby seemed out of place. All in all if you want a movie that will keep you rolling with laughter and you don't mind a little tactless humor, Scary Movie 4 is the flick for you.
