As Judge Charles A. Porter Jr. denies Senator Larry Craig’s withdraw of his convicted guilty plea; his career in the Republican Party is officially over. Craig faces accusations from the media, pressure from his family, and resignation from his position as an Idaho representative in the United States Senate.

On June 11, 2007, Senator Larry Craig was arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with an undercover officer at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport men's bathroom. According to police reports, Craig entered a stall next to an undercover policeman and suggested hand motions indicating "a desire to engage in sexual conduct.” When police arrived on the scene, they classified the event as a public sex act. Later on August 8, Larry Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, but claimed he had done nothing wrong and the charge held against him was ridiculous. Soon, Craig lost the moral support and aides of his political party and decided to step down from his position as the Senator of Idaho in September. As soon as he was found guilty, Craig ordered his lawyers to sentence an overturn on the conviction. On October 4, 2007, Judge Porter denied his plea due to “no new evidence.” The fact is, that Larry Craig, a formerly respected Senator, actually acted in this manner is absolutely unforgivable. For years, Craig consistently fought against gay and lesbian marriage rights while serving his political term.

Now since the controversy is made public, he still denies any reports that he is gay. However, Larry Craig put himself into a very difficult position, because otherwise there would be no scandal. Craig knew what he was doing and was aware of his social status. He was a senator who, like most politicians, did not have a significant amount of privacy. But, could he have really thought that in acting in such inappropriate behavior; it would have not become public?

Modern society thoroughly understands that the media has definitely gotten out of control. The focus is put on the celebrities: actors, performers, and even politicians; but what makes Larry Craig believe that this controversy would not be exposed? Did he believe that just by making foot-tapping and hand gestures suggesting sexual activity would not have been a big deal? Not only does Craig make himself look deceitful, but he proves himself to be hypocritical because of the belief that his untouchable status in society would have prevented this scandal.
