IRVINE- The Beckman Lady Patriots triumphed over the Trojans of Uni in a Pacific Coast League game on Tuesday afternoon, April 22, with a final score of 14-0 after five innings. The reigning CIF-SS Champions proved to be too hot to handle while showing promise for future seasons. With the game expected to be fairly easy, Head Coach Sean Diaz mixed up the starting line-up by giving playing time to the younger players. "All of the young players really stepped up and proved themselves. It's nice to know that Beckman Softball will still be coming and strong and keeping their name for the future," commented Senior Katie Heldreth, #3, third base/left field.

After only two innings, Beckman gained an early lead, 8-0, with the very first run being scored by Freshman Jordan Diaz in the first inning, with the RBI (run batted in) being credited to teammate Allison Kaprielina, #6.

In the top of the third inning, the Lady Patriots acquired three more runs. Heldreth stepped up to the plate and hit a double to left field, scoring teammates Jordan Diaz, #16, and Kelli Gonzales, #13. Two batters later, Angie Delgado, #14, acquired an RBI (scoring Heldreth) on a single, with Jasmine Harrell, #12, advancing to third base. On Aj Carranza's, #17, at-bat, Harrell stole home on an error by Uni. Carranza made contact with the ball and hit a triple, scoring Delgado. In the bottom of the inning, the Beckman defense, led by Pitcher Jasmin Harrell, was too tough for Uni, as they were out in a one-two-three sequence.

The top of the fourth inning led to another run on the Patriot end of the scoreboard on an RBI by Diaz, scoring Rachel Lowry, #8. In the bottom of the fourth, Harrell made three consecutive strike-outs. After the game she commented, "[I tried to] keep my pitches working and not get over-confident."

With a fairly rapid at bat in the fifth inning, came time for the Lady Patriots to close the game. Senior Megan Denio, #2, came in to accomplish the task at hand. Back-to-back hits from the Lady Trojans went directly to Gonzales for the first two outs. The third and final out of the game came on a ground-out play to Delgado, where she tagged her opponent on first base to mark the finale of the match.

After the game, Lowry offered her insight, saying, "It was a good team effort. Everyone got to play and it was awesome!"
