Patriot Golf had two wins against league opponents Irvine and San Juan Hills. Unfortunately, they lost to Mission Viejo the day before their victory against San Juan.

Monday, April 20, the Patriots defeated the Irvine Vaqueros, 191-221 at Oak Creek. Steve Kang shot a very solid 2-under par 34. Alex Kang followed that up with a 2-over par 38. As per the score, the Patriots dominated Irvine. Coach Bushong summed it up by stating, “We played very well as a team.”

Beckman Golf’s lone loss last week was against the Mission Viejo Diablos at Mission Viejo Country Club. The score was 207-199, so it was close, but the team was absolutely sold to the opinion that they did not play their best game against Mission Viejo. The team’s leading golfer that game, Steve Kang shot a 2 over par. After the game, Coach Bushong seemed flustered and unhappy with the team’s performance. Scotty Owens got straight to the point by stating, “We didn’t play very well.”

The Patriot’s next performance was simply dominating, even if it was against merely freshmen and sophomores. They played at Tustin Ranch and the score was a completely lopsided victory, 193-230. It seemed as though the team took a deep breath after the game and realized they still have what it takes to be successful. Scotty Owen came out of his shell as the breakout star against San Juan with a solid par 36, one of, if not the best, scores of his junior season. When asked about their performance, the entire team was all smiles and said, “It was a solid score; we are capable of putting on a show.”

Currently, Patriot Golf is 6-2 in the Pacific Coast League which is good enough for second place behind Corona Del Mar. Their success last week will surely add some fire to their games against University on Monday, April 27, and on Friday at home.
