At-a-glance

This past summer, most teens probably heard about the popular American boy band, the Jonas Brothers, touring around the U.S. However, some may have failed to hear about one of their opening acts that shined through and stayed in the spotlight. The Wonder Girls, a South Korean pop-culture sensation, have spread their catchy hit “Nobody” to America. The Wonder Girls have come to America and conquered it, crazing it just like they did last year in South Korea, when “Nobody” first hit the music charts.
The Wonder Girls is a quintet girl group consisting of Sohee, Yubin, Sun, Yenny, and Mimi, who successfully debuted in 2007 through entertainment company, JYP. JYP's talents are typically categorized as Korean Pop, otherwise known as Kpop. Their company’s namesake and boss is no other than Jin Young Park, who is also a Korean talent.

The Wonder Girls’ success continued to follow them as they ventured to America in the early months of 2009. They had to go through quite a lot to succeed in America, but they took it as a way to challenge themselves and endured through all of their lessons and tutoring sessions. For example, they learned English and went public in America. It all paid off when they were approached by American fans when touring with the Jonas Brothers.

“I want nobody, nobody, nobody but you!” These catchy lyrics have captured the hearts of many fans around the globe today. But not only are the lyrics popular, the dance moves that go along with the whole song have also caught on. Since “Nobody” is the Girls’ first song translated into English, the actual language in it is kind of awkward. However, hopefully people will decide to support them, so that the English in their songs will improve as they gain more popularity.

The Wonder Girls are off to a great start in the American music industry. Having many hit songs and dances to go along with them under their belt, the Girls are sure to be liked by all ages worldwide. “Nobody” is a song which is completely appropriate for nearly any occasion; whether it’s a school dance, a song on lovesick teenager's iPod, or just the background jam when a fan is in the mood, it’s a song that any listener will want to hear again and again.
