On Tuesday, November 21st, Varsity Girls Soccer opened their preseason with a scrimmage against Capo Valley High School. The scrimmage marked the first game of their second Varsity season as well as their first game at their new home field at Harvard Park.

Beckman came out strong in the first half with the first goal scored by Captain Alyssa Hedden. With a strong defense led by Sophomore Rachel Brown, the score remained 1-0 till halftime. Unfortunately, Capo Valley’s experienced offense managed to steal the game in the second half with a final score of 1-3. Coach Mathis, however, said she “Couldn’t be happier. We came out with a lot of intensity.”

Another commendable performance was seen in Tuesday’s game against cross-town rivals, Foothill High School. Once again, Beckman did not come out the victor, but showed strong offensive and defensive abilities. Senior goalkeeper Shanel Shack stated, “We are going to do very well in our season, we have a lot of speed and tenacity.”
