On Wednesday, October 25, Desert Mirage had its first Honor Roll of the year. Students with a GPA of 3.0 and higher, from sessions 3 and 4 of the 2005-2006 school year were honored for their academic achievements. The ceremony started at 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Kindra Harmon, ASB president, led with the flag salute. Mr. Ceja gave the welcome to the parents who were there to celebrate the outstanding D.M. students.

Afterwards, Ms. Vega introduced the students who were honored. Mr. Hernandez thanked all the parents for supporting their teenagers. At the end of the ceremony, the luckiest students received a basket full of snacks.

We had the opportunity to interview parents and students; upper grades gave advice to the freshmen. At the begginning, it was tough for Cesar Escalante (17). He wasn't used to doing his work, but now he's doing much better. He is involved in school activities, such as playing basketball and running short distance track. "Stay focused, and if you have a goal, you will accomplish it," said Cesar. Othoniel Figueroa (16) knows how much education is worth. He said, "At least we need a high school diploma to have better opportunities in life and a good future."
