Coachella Valley USD has recently been informed of action from the state of California. The news involves C.V.U.S.D. as well as 97 other statewide school districts. These 98 school district are currently failing requirements under the NCLB Act.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced during his State of the State address, California will be the first state nationwide to take immediate action towards the dilemma of having 98 school district failing.

Abrupt changes will be made to many, if not all, districts.

Arnold’s proposal consists of teams of experts that will work with the targeted districts in order to further evaluate their status as a school district.

Academic structure will either be kept in check by these experts or completely be revised by way of recommendation. CVUSD Superintendent Foch “Tut” Pensis spoke to the press following the state address and said that he looks forward to working with state experts on improving student achievement. CVUSD has had 5 previous sanctions imposed by the state.

No official conclusion will come until March of 2008. Districts can only look forward towards a little bit of leniency from if they have been following state recommendations as they fight low student test scores and achievement.
