CALIPATRIA - On Friday, August 31, the Desert Mirage football team came to a second consecutive defeat, 26-10, against the Calipatria Hornets.
The Rams went into halftime down by a 6-3 Calipatria lead.  Despite losing several fumbles, the Rams fought hard to stay in the game. Senior Moises Zepeda gave the Rams some momentum with a 19-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, tightening up the score to a 19-10, but the Hornets crushed the Ram's comeback attempt in the fourth quarter.
Fullback Victor Nino led the Rams' rushing attack with 73 yards, while Zepeda came in second with 72 yards on the ground.  Rams' quarterback Steven Lawson had a rough night fending off the Calipatria rush, and was just 3 for 14 passing for 28 yards.
"In these past two games, our main weakness has been penalties and key fumbles, and we will start focusing on cutting key errors," said senior wide reciever Jonathan Chavez.
Desert Mirage (0-2), will be hosting Calexico at 7 p.m. this Friday at Rams' Stadium.
Come out & support our Rams!
