RAMS' STADIUM - Friday night proved to be yet another costly defeat to the Desert Mirage football team as they came up short against the Calexico Bulldogs in a close 13-7 loss.
Despite the Rams' 157 yards on the ground and passing for 66 yards, points continued to pose the problem for the Rams.  For the third consecutive time, Rams underwent halftime empty handed. Cesar Figueroa's 30-yard field goal was blocked to end the first half for a 7-0 Calexico lead.
The Rams came out strong after halftime and quarterback Victor Niño's 1-yard run evened the score 7-7, but Calexico's 54-yard drive in 11 plays gave them the lead during the third quarter. With nearly 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Jose Bustamante's 20-yard run moved the ball to the Ram's 43-yard line. Desert Mirage was setting themselves up for a comeback, but were crushed when Niño's pass to Alberto Dueñas was intercepted by Calexico's Anthony Cortez.
Rams' Head Coach Ron Alford believes the team showed improvement but feels his offense needs to be more productive. He says they ( the coaches) are still searching for the guys with the heart and desire.
Desert Mirage (0-3) will face-off her eternal rival Coachella Valley in the traditional Date Bowl. CV will be hosting the Date Bowl this Friday night at 7 p.m.
     Come and support your Rams!
