Athens Drive Women’s volleyball is in the midst of a challenging season with rivals including Cary, Apex and Middle Creek.
“This year’s season has been rough, but it has been fun,” said Tori Jefferson, junior.
Jennifer Hiteshew, junior and setter for the volleyball team, scored 22 points against the Fuquay Varina Bengals. The final score was 25 to 6. Another win for the Lady Jags was the game against the Middle Creek Mustangs Sep. 29.
“It was fun playing against Middle Creek and we also played well as a team,” said Cori Smith, junior.
Oct. 6, the Lady Jags went against their big rivals the Cary Imps for their second time, and it resulted in a loss for the Ladies. The score ended with two wins for the Jags and three wins for Cary.
The Lady Jags played Panther Creek Oct. 8. The game went into over time playing five games. The last game was lost by only two points.
“Panther Creek was a tough team and it was the best we have ever played this year. We blocked well and as a team we were very consistent. I was really proud of the way all the girls played,” said Angela Coticchio, volleyball coach and math teacher.
The Lady Jags will also face long time rivals the Apex Cougars Oct. 15 for the second time. Their first game against the Cougars ended with another loss for the Lady Jags with three games won by Apex.
“Apex is one of the best defensive teams in the state,” said Coticchio.
For Senior Night, the Lady Jags went against the Holly Spring Golden Hawks, where seniors Kate Carlton and Christie Dierk were celebrated Oct. 20.
