This year at Athens there are more freshman then there have been in the previous years, this number of new students is making our school very over populated.
The class with the most students is the freshman class. This is a big problem at lunch, because the first week freshman most likely will not know where to go, stand around and other students will not be able to get around. Also there are a lot of kids to where the lines at lunch are very long, and some kids can’t get their lunch until lunch is over. To fix this issue the administration have added an extra ten minutes to get to class after lunch, and it seems to be working better.
“It’s way more crowded in the hallways and especially in the stairwells, and after lunch the hallways get even more crazy!” says Chandler King, sophomore.
Having too many kids in a class brings up the issue of the teacher having enough time to help each student with all of their questions, if a student’s question is not answered in class, the students would have to start coming during lunch which can make more of a struggle for the teachers.
“It seems like Athens has four times more people than middle school,” says Jess Roch, freshman.
Another over crowded place in the school is the hallways. When trying to get through the halls, overcrowding is an issue because the hallways do not seem like they are meant for the number of students that are in them. This could make it hard for kids to get to their classes on time.
One of the most crowded places at Athens is the lunch room, during the summer the administration debated on changing our lunch to where we had an A lunch and a B lunch.
If we had an A lunch and a B lunch there would be half as many students in the lunch room as there are now, that could be the answer to our overcrowding issue. If administration discuses the issue of overcrowding they could find an answer to the problem.
