Throwing flags in the air and dancing at pep rallies are some of the things that the Trojanettes are good at. The Trojanettes are the color guard and the dance team combined.

Sophomore Morgan Bright joined the team this school year. Over 50 girls had tried out at the beginning of school, and fewer than half made it.

“It’s not as easy as it looks,” Bright said.

The team practices after school two times a week, some Saturdays and during class.

The point of color guard is to entertain.

“We perform at halftime at the football games,” Bright said.

Before games and performances, Bright and the other Trojanettes follow little traditions and superstitions.

“We do this little thing with Starburst,” Bright said. It’s pretty much that they take a bite out of a Starburst and spit it out, getting rid of all the bad things that could happen. Then they put the wrapper in their left bra cup for good luck.

Performing as a Trojanette can mean embarrassing times.

“I did a really big shimmy one time, and the cameras zoomed in on me,” Bright said.

Even with all the bad times, Bright still doesn’t regret joining the team.
