T
hey walk out on the football field dressed in their jerseys and possessing a certain confidence or determination to defeat the opposing team. They are ready to get just as gritty, just as grimy and just as serious as the boys.
The Lady Trojan flag football team could be considered a number of things, but losers are not one of them. These girls go out to support Lincoln with the best of their abilities. The question is, do these women get the support and respect that they deserve? Coach Brandon McCray said he doesn’t think people realize that flag football is an actual Florida High School Athletics Association sport and that last year our team was third in the state out of 159 teams.
Our girls are actually good.
One day, while walking by the field after leaving a baseball game, I noticed that there were a few people at one of the girls’ games. It might’ve been parents coming out to support both the opposing team and Lincoln, and maybe a few friends. Whether it’s a girls’ soccer game or flag football, a softball game or maybe even the girls’ basketball team, I personally feel as if the women’s sports in general do not get the same treatment as the male sports. Why not? After all, universities and colleges have flag football as a sport.
Lincoln is known for having the best sports in Leon County, and the Lady Trojans Flag Football team helps continue that title.
Although the flag football team won only two games this season and is number four in the district, the girls still qualified for districts, which began April 26. Let’s support the Lady Trojans!
