The modern American Society is filled with all types of people who voice their opinions about every topic imaginable. One of the most voiced, but what seems like the least enforced, is the equality of women. Since the publication of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman in 1792 by Mary Wollstonecraft, women have been insistent on equal treatment but to this day in age very few actually enforce it. By this I mean, women are still being objectified by our society and receiving special treatment.
From what occurs in day to day activities it seems as if those who are so bent for equal treatment, are also those who stick to the traditional rituals that are associated with the repression of women of the past. Even after receiving “equal” rights on paper, most women still do not go dutch when on a date or are upset when not having a door opened for her.
The numbers of these types of “Feminists” are increasing daily and the reason behind it is the influence of others. Unfortunately there are many women out there who believe just because someone says they are a feminist, and then it must be true so they should act that way themselves. On the other hand these same women treat what is considered equal treatment as a menu. They pick at which times it is appropriate to demand equal treatment from the men around them.
By not sticking to their beliefs they give men the “okay” to treat them with less respect. As a result of changing what is suitable and what is not at the drop of a hat, what blame most put on men for being inconsiderate is misplaced and should be redirected to the women dishing out all the mixed signals. In all reality by being so flaky with their ideals, these types of women have no justified reason for being upset for an order that was taken wrong.
