DCA’s choir and drama department had been preparing for their trip to Los Angeles since they first found out about the location last fall. Little did they know that when the time came to leave, the flu bug would be wandering around. The first inclination was when Landis White caught the flu, and Daniel Mathis was infected with a stomach virus only 3 days prior to boarding the plane. After chugging down antibiotics, Daniel and Landis were in good enough health to go on the trip. Devin Wayman was not so lucky when he woke up the morning of the trip to a stomach virus, causing him to miss the plane. Once in L.A. everyone seemed in good health and ready to have some fun. But after a 15 hour day filled with Disney, the level of healthy students began to drop. Despite the warm and sunny weather in L.A. during the day, the weather at night and in the morning is surprisingly cold. With this in mind, it wasn’t too surprising that the next morning Mrs. Cook and Ms. Lindsey woke up to several of their kids sick with a fever peaking at 102. So instead of spending their day at California Adventures, these loving teachers took their students to the nearest CVS Pharmacy where most were diagnosed with a cold virus. Abby McCormick wasn’t so lucky when she was identified with the flu and had to stay at CVS with Ms. Cook for an hour after the others, so she could get a swab test. After a resting lunch, most of the sick kids were able to attend the Cirque du Soleil show, Iris. As the trip progressed, more students became sick as the others' health improved. Yet despite such an unlucky turn of events, it was still a lovely trip and enjoyed by all.
