It is 11 o’clock on New Year’s Eve, and the ball is dropping at Times Square in New York City. Everyone has different traditions, whether it is gathering with family or partying with friends.
Some people are worried about making their New Year’s resolutions before the New Year arrives.
For many students, the main goal beginning in January is to do better in class. Committing to do better in class is no easy feat and requires more effort and work.
“I certainly hope I do better in my classes next year,” sophomore Jared Mock said.
In AP world history classes, students are working to do better with their promises of higher grades. By working harder, students can learn to be more organized and responsible. Students have only one chance to make an impression on their educators and make scores that will allow them to pursue future plans.
“They [students] have their moments of lacking in common sense,” Ms. April Aston said.
Some students are working toward playing a sport or doing better in a sport they already play. The basic plan to do better in sports includes rigorous training and eating the right food.
School work is involved, because if a student flunks their classes, they won’t be able to play in any sport or extra-curricular activity.
“It’s one of my top priorities, being my senior year,” senior Edwin Perez said. “To go on the field trips for drama and BPA, I have to keep my grades up.”
Doing better in school can be accomplished in many ways.
“I will be more focused and organized,” sophomore Angie Luu said. “I need to be on time and not procrastinate. I realize that sophomore year is way more time consuming than freshman year.”
Regardless of the resolution, having a plan and following it through are the most important. It is commonly said, “Fail to plan, plan to fail.”
