On May 4, 2009 LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers won his first NBA MVP award. At 24 years, and 106 days old LeBron became the 3 youngest player in NBA history to win the award. He is only behind Moses Malone and Wes Unseld. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound James blew through the competition this season by averaging nearly a triple double coming in with 32 points, 11.3 rebounds and 7.5 assists for the top seeded Cavaliers. The MVP race was not even close this season, LeBron had a total of 1,172 votes, while Kobe Bryant who was second in the voting had a mere 698 votes. LeBron also became only the six player in NBA history to win both the NBA Rookie of the year and MVP award honors in there careers. Unlike previous winners of this award who usually receive this award before a game or at the practice facility. LeBron choose to receive his award in the place where his stardom began, at his alma mater St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. In front of thousands of fans and his teammates and coach he received his award. As a gift for receiving this honor James was given a car that he then donated to charity. At only 24 the future seems very bright for King James; you can expect him to win many more of these awards in the many years to come.
