With spring at its end and summer a knocking on the door, we pack away our quilts and flannel pjs. People are uncovering their pools and gardening. The trees are green and the sun is shining. Everyone needs to know how to protect your skin this summer because there are skin cancers often caused by prolonged exposure to UV rays. You can take steps in preventing future skin damage. The best time of day to wear protection from the sun is 10am to 3pm. Make sure when in the sun to remember to wear a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 and also to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours when outdoors, even on cloudy days. A wide rimmed hat and light colored clothes are recommended when outdoors. Also you should avoid tanning beds, tanning oils, and sun bathing without sunscreen. Try safer alternatives for your summer tan such as lotions with a tinting agent (Jergen's Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer) or a spray tan.
