Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Brave Publication Policy

(Inspired by H.L. Hall and the Journalism Education Association)

The Brave is published by the yearbook/newspaper staff of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School and serves as a medium of communication for its readers. It exists to inform its readers about school, community, nation and world events, personalities, school policies and their changes, and to entertain. The Brave staff has adopted the following editorial policy:

1.

Libelous and obscene material, profane or purposely disruptive statement will not appear in the Brave publications.

2.

The staff of the Brave publications retains the right to choose content and to determine the priority of stories for its reads. No other individuals, other than the Brave publications staff and its adviser, have the right to review the content of the Brave publications prior to publication. The staff and adviser shall make final decisions involving all written and pictorial content of the Brave publications.

3.

The Brave publications will strive to present the news in an objective manner As much as possible; the writers will be encouraged to research those views, policies or actions that are being reported so those involved may express their opinion in an article. The Brave publications will attempt to use fairness, impartiality, accuracy, truthfulness and responsibility in presenting ideas to its readers.

4.

The Brave publications will make clear distinction between factual and opinionated content. If opinion pieces appear, they will be labeled as such.

5.

Any reader with a grievance after the Brave publications has been published may request a discussion with the editors and adviser. Only those involved and members of the school administration may be present at the discussion.

6.

The Brave publications will not discriminate against members of any group, be it minority or otherwise, in the amount of coverage, staff representation or any other manner.

7.

Proper channels will be followed in order to obtain permission to use copyrighted materials.
