Messages traveling across the internet. Comments to a person or picture being left. Gaining new friends every second. Meeting others across the country. Myspace has become an addiction to users all across the world.
“I have a Myspace account,” said freshman Janelle Wilhelm. “I got it a while ago and have had the same one since. I gain a lot of friends and have filled out the stuff and changed it up too.”
Myspace has become a big addiction to a large amount of people. Many students at Garrett High School have become frequent users. They feel it has become an unstoppable habit to log on everyday for hours at a time.
“I do not consider it exactly an addiction,” said freshman Rachael Meyers. “I do get on a lot, but a lot of people do. I like to change my page and switch up my 'about me'. I love downloading new pictures and getting picture comments.”
While to some it has become and addiction, others feel they have not taken it that far. It has become just a simple log on every once in a while to check and keep in touch with friends.
“I rarely even get on,” said junior Matt Warstler. “I do not even log on everyday. I just get on to check it and just comment or message people back. My Myspace experience is not even close to an addiction.”
Some users have found Myspace a new way to meet people. It has also become a way to make a new friend.
“I tend to get a lot of random ads,” said freshman Austin Gibson. “I do not even know the people or have heard of them. A lot of the people who add me, get me from a friend’s page and just think I would be fun to talk to." Myspace is used to meet new friends, but also used to keep in touch with old ones. Through messages and comments, you keep in touch with others.
“I have a lot of friends from different schools,” said sophomore Leah Stebing. “Myspace really helps me keep in touch with them. Some of my friends that have moved to a different school also talk to me through Myspace.”
Many users and parents of the users are worried about the safety of Myspace. Many advise not to place any personal information in your "about me" section of the page.
“My parents are always reminding me how unsafe Myspace is,” said freshman Jordyn Knott. “I do not see what the big worry is. As long as I do not except random adds from creepy people I should be fine.”
While some feel Myspace is unsafe, others are comfortable with it. They have found that as long as you do not give too much information and stay away from unknown users, your experience with Myspace will be fine.
“I could not care less,” said senior Sean Abbott. “I really doubt any one is going to come and stalk me or hunt me down.”
Myspace has also become a way to express yourself. It allows you to post pictures of you and your originality. It also allows you to make your profile page in your own expressive way.
“I love the fact that Myspace allows you to express yourself,” said sophomore Briana Chisholm. “I get to put whatever in my about me and put a profile song that fits me or that I just like.”
Myspace is a new way to meet people and keep in touch with your friends. It allows you to express yourself in so many ways. Though people are debative on whether it is safe or not, it is still regularly used.
