Boredom. Many people get this feeling multiple times a day. Being bored gives teens a lot of extra time to do unique things. Even though teens have extra time on their hands, they never do anything to fix it. “When I get bored, I usually do not do anything because I get so bored I do not want to move,” said freshman Bennett Rieke. Teens probably get bored more often than they have fun. And actually some teens say they are bored even if they are hanging with friends or on the computer. A common one is saying “bored” while on MySpace. “I actually do get a lot on MySpace, or doing anything. I think that is just a popular thing to say because we do not know what else to say or do,” said junior Paul Miller Boredom occupies a lot of time in teens’ lives. Boredom sometimes brings friends closer- by getting them to talk about random things, or just gets them to talk to new people. “When me and my friends are pretty bored we like talking about our futures and a lot of stuff like that,” said sophomore Kady Hahn. Many teens have Attention Deficit Disorder. It is also known as ADD. Having ADD also makes it really hard for teens to stay focused. When a teen has ADD they sometimes get bored really often too. “I have ADD and I do get bored really easily. I cannot just stand around and do nothing. I like walking around, that at least, kind of keeps me entertained,” said sophomore Alexx Gage. Some teens do one thing that many teachers do not like and that is sleeping during class.
“I actually do not try to sleep all the time during class, but I cannot really help it. Sometimes there is nothing really else to do,” said sophomore Zack Chervanka. Ways to fix boredom range from sitting around playing video games, watching television, be on the computer and texting or talking on the phone with friends. Some teens do these things to fix their boredom and some do not. It just depends what kind of person you are. For some people boredom is a major problem, and is not fun at all. “When I am sitting at home, I like to keep saying I am bored, but I like to sit around and play video games. They do entertain me a lot. So that is good I guess,” said senior Casey VonDerau.
