A few new faces you may see around Garrett High School this year are Jerry Custer and Flo Woodward.

Jerry Custer and Flo Woodward work together everyday as the In-School Suspension teachers (ISS). Mr. Custer supervises the ISS students from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30. Mrs. Woodward then comes in to supervise from 10:30 until 3:10.

As for being an ISS teacher, the job requires a lot of patience.

“I feel like I have an opportunity by helping students stay in school,” said Custer.

Both Mr. Custer and Mrs. Woodward enjoy working with each student who comes to ISS. They believe they can make a difference whether they put a smile on a young boy’s face who is in the fifth grade or help a teenage girl who can’t figure out a real hard math equation. They are there not to only watch them, but to be supportive.

“I enjoy trying to help the kids to be respectful and teach them how important it is to listen in class,” said Woodward

Jerry Custer, as a retired police officer, has worked with people of all ages during these events.

“I’m really proud of Garrett! The staff really care,” he said.

Mrs. Woodward too has worked for the school previously by teaching at the Four County Vocational School of cosmetology for 11 years.
