Students leave school after 300
Advertising
After school in the commons and in the halls a lot of students like to hang out, talk to their friends, and mess around.

But on February 9, 2007 this all changed, staff came up with a rule that students are not allowed to be in the halls or in the commons after 3:00 p.m., unless they are participating in a extra curricular activities. There were no major incidents that caused this rule to come about, except for the students were just hanging out messing around and there was trash all over and students were being disrespectful.

“Students are staying here until 6:00 or 7:00 pm and they are not in sports or any extra curricular activities, says Nathan Perez campus supervisor

“Students are unsupervised after 3:00 pm and as a result some are engaged in inappropriate behavior, said Assistant Principal Greg Winger

This rule was informally enforced last year, and really was not a big deal and the administrators would tell students that were hanging around to leave. This year they have stepped it up and are formally enforcing the rule that students are not allowed to be hanging out in the halls and in the commons at all after 3:00pm.

Students will get a few warnings about hanging out and they will get let off easy, but if they continue to hang out they are receive a trespassing ticket.

Perez says, “Yeah we got a lot of complaints from teachers, saying that students were being disrespectful, noisy, and messy.”

Another problem that they had was that a custodian would clean a section of the school, and it would just be trashed again. But there was also some positive things about it, there are fewer students in the halls and in the commons after school, and less trash.

“There is a complete difference, less students”, says Perez.

Students have said that they have the right to be in the school and they should be able to come and go when they want to and they should be able to stay in the halls and in the commons after school.
