Trainable Mentally Challenged students show photographic vision
Advertising
Imagine having talent locked inside a mentally challenged mind. Imagine not having anyone interested in unlocking that talent. Now see Hialeah High’s Trainable Mentally Challenged students display their digital photographs. See their display at the Hialeah City Hall. Come to their gallery opening. Imagine.

Under the guidance of teachers Jack Nadel and Alyse Blum, these eager students have accomplished much. Blum and Nadel managed to unlock talent and vision in their students. They also reached out to the school to involve other classes to work with their students. The photography classes, journalism classes, and others jumped at the chance to work as mentors and buddies. The parents were so excited with the results that many purchased digital cameras for their children.

In response to a letter written by a parent of a student, NBC Channel 6 News sent anchor Tony Segreto to the school to interview the students and teachers.

The focus of the interview was to celebrate the students’ achievements in digital photography and the upcoming showcases.

On November 17, the students’ work will be exhibited at Hialeah City Hall between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. They currently have an ongoing display at the Luna Star Café on 125th Street in North Miami. There will be an “Invitation Only” gallery opening in the city of Hollywood on December 3.

Segreto’s interview will be broadcast Friday, November 10th, at 6 p.m. on NBC Channel 6.
