When I first moved to Danville, my parents almost ruined my life. While searching for houses, they were split between a house in the Jennie Rogers district and one in another school district. In fact, they were adamant about the other house for a long time. Phew. What a relief that they didn’t buy that one. Had Mom and Dad made that unfortunate decision, I would have missed out on opportunities I’ve had in the Danville Schools.

No other school in the region offers nearly as many Honors or AP classes. No other small school in the state can be competitive, at both the regional and the state level in the way that Danville is. No other school has supported its academic teams and clubs and seen the national recognition that ours have. Danville is a remarkable place. It is so hard to mix small, personal education with opportunities for students, but Danville has the perfect mix. Not only that, but our students have integrity.

When Mr. Groves had his accident, or when Grace wrecked, the student body got organized in an unparalleled fashion to support its faculty, its mentors, and its friends. We cared and we showed it.

Leaving Danville is going to be one of the saddest experiences of my life. But I’m not worried. I went to Danville. Even though we’re anchored in excellence, as a graduate of the Danville Schools, I’m ready to fly.
