This month’s female athlete spotlight is sophomore badminton player Lyzah Bati. It is very rare to have a sophomore noticed for their efforts, but many have noticed Bati for the efforts that she puts forth and her determination to be the best. She has a mentality and work ethic that is recognized by her coaches and teammates. She puts forth the work and its pays off during badminton season.

“Badminton looks really fun and challenging especially during the singles game,” Bati says. Looking up to badminton players before her, she loved the way the game gets intense and the way it challenges your mind and opponent. Playing her freshmen year of high school she figured out that badminton was her favorite sport and a sport that she could excel at during her high school years. “Badminton is a fun sport that I have become interested in and am excited for the upcoming season,” Bati said.

To become mentally and physically able to maintain the skills that she now, “I run a lot and do stretches,” Bati says. “Also I read and study online articles about how real badminton players have become successful and what kind of strategic moves they have.” In addition she hones her skills by attending practice every day after school from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., but when 5:30 rolls around she is still practicing with her team and usually doesn’t leave until 6 o’ clock.

Not only does she do her best to perform to the best of her abilities on the court but she also excels in her school work. “I set my own schedule. I put the time and effort to my homework and any other school work that I have to do. I usually plan my weekly activities over the weekend so I know what to expect as far as my class work is concerned,” Bati says. Obviously this method has helped her maintain her good grades and being able to perform 110% both on and off the court.

To prepare for a match Bati tells herself, “Do what you have to do to win and just do your best.” Bati is still a young player, but she has the work ethic and the mentality of a well experienced badminton player.
