Seniors Ali Morgan and Jenni Fester had a great time dressing up and entertaining their freshman sisters. Would senior boys go too far with a traditional Senior Brothers program? -

You have seen them promenading down the hallways, you have heard them singing songs at lunch, and you have even watched as they have been dragged around dressed in ridiculously vibrant colors and distorted hats. Freshmen girls have experienced the tradition of Senior Sisters, and I have to ask myself, “Where’s my little freshman bro?”
Senior Sisters has been going on for years, but Senior Brothers has never worked out. My question is, why? I don’t believe it is the administration’s fault because this was the first year the school was even involved in the program. Prior to this year, it was just a small group of girls that would do it on their own.
So why don’t boys do it? Some may say it is a maturity issue. But, the majority of the senior class is at least 17 years old. We have matured a lot the past four years of high school, believe it or not.
Another argument that some people have is that there is no time to do it, which is not true. Senior Sisters traditionally goes on during Homecoming week. Correct me if I am wrong, but don’t we still have Winterfest? Could Senior Brothers be created, this year, during Winterfest week?
What could be more romantic than having your freshmen brother serenade your date in the hallways in a full suit and tie while covering the ground your lady walks on in rose petals? Need I say more?
Rumor has it that in the beginning of the senior sister tradition, senior brothers were born simultaneously. Young freshmen boys were carried around tied to poles while some were stuffed into lockers and ordered to hand out books between each class. However, it is hard to believe a 10-year-old rumor, especially considering that both the senior class allegedly responsible for these accusations as well as the freshmen who supposedly endured these circumstances are long gone.
The administration has never been involved with Senior Sisters until this year. Maybe if the senior guys propose the idea of Senior Brothers to the Administration we could get the tradition started up again.
It may be safe to say that the school as well as the students have matured, and I find it hard to imagine that with the threat of Zero Tolerance looming above the student population that any senior would risk being expelled his or her final year because they took a joke a little too far.
Although this opportunity was specifically intended for the females of our school, not everything can be kept sacred. The current administration started Macho Volleyball. This was a great plan and has become a strong tradition here. If we could make an exception for that, how is it any different in this instance?
It is my senior year, and so far, I would have to say the school has not really done anything for the males that we can call our own.
I’m not looking for special treatment, but in a society where everything has to be equal, I would have to say the scale is currently a little lopsided.
