Underneath the Friday night lightswearing blue Converse, you’ll find senior Katy Blanchard as Mighty the Mustangfor her final year.
“It’ssad to think it’s almost over,” Blanchard said. “But I hope to make this thebest year for Mighty.”
Katyhas been the mascot for the past three years and hopes to continue in college.
“I’mnot sure where I want to go to college yet but I hope to continue with mymascot career,” Blanchard said.
Blanchardintends to focus on this year and making it the best yet. This was the first year for Katy toattend camp, and she came out on top.
Blanchardearned the NCA All American award, Best Prop Award, and The Application Award.The Application Award gives Katy an opportunity to come back and work at a NCAcamp in future years.
Thisyear you will see Mighty doing many different things on the field. Blanchardhas many ideas in store, a lot include crowd involvement.
“I’mhoping to try something called Mascot Money, which I will hand out to the kidsat games, this Mascot Money can be exchanged for tattoos that the JVcheerleaders sell at football games,” Blanchard said.
Blanchardhas also been approved to have a Mustang blue toy Barbie jeep. At the end ofthe year she hopes to pass on the car to the next mascot or to auction it offin order to help pay for the next mascot to go to camp.
Althoughthe heat from the uniform can be unbearable sometimes and it’s hard to see thegame, Blanchard is excited to be back on the field doing what she loves to do.
“It’sbeen a long summer, but I’m ready to come back strong and make this a greatyear,” Blanchard said.
