It’s been the topic before, and it seems to be an issue, still. The question is did Rockport Fulton High School really take care of the Dress Code problem?
The dress code issue at Rockport Fulton High School is not getting any better.
For the last three years, dress code has been the topic of dicussion, especially the first couple of weeks of school. To some, it is a distraction to a learning environment, to others, they feel it is an expression of individuality.
“Many students don’t pay attention to what other people wear, so it’s not really a learning distraction,” Sophomore Jackie Said.
The student and parent handbook, which students sign at the beginning of the year, says: If the principal determines that a student’s grooming violates the appearance code, the student shall be given the opportunity to correct the problem at school with replacement garments or correct, the student may be assigned to In-School Suspension for the remainder of the day.
“You could still wear what you want now, except there just some few limits; they are not taking away people’s expression to show there individuality now,” Freshmen Brian Warren said.
If that is the case, why are students still sent down to the office for dress code violations?
“[Students] must know that every time they break the dress code it will come closer to standardize dress code,” Vice Principle Greg Nelson Said.
On average, one out of fifteen students would prefer standardize dress code or uniforms, but taking away our rights of expressing ourselves as kid would only make matters worse. RFHS should “Enforce” dress code. To all the students.
If RFHS enforces the dress code, we wouldn’t have the struggle of students out of class, and dress code would not continue to be a topic of discussion during all hours of the day.
