A “field trip for every unit” is a priority that Laramie High School Geology teacher Erin Klauk strives for.   While fun is a benefit, the ultimate goal is learning about what Klauk amply calls, “geologic history.”

“We went and learned about fossils” recalled LHS Senior Christina Ellis of the classes’ annual field trip to the University of Wyoming Geology Museum.  One of the highlights of the trip was the “Big Al” exhibit.  “Big Al is a dinosaur that died.  He was fully preserved,” explained Ellis on the impressive fossil construction housed at the museum.  The class studied Al’s numerous fractures, including one in his toe that ultimately led to his death by way of starvation.  Learning about dinosaurs and even the geologic history of Laramie, the field trip is one of the more fun and educational outings offered at LHS.

Geology continues to be an exciting class for its students due to the fascinating material matter and efforts of their enthusiastic teacher.  “Ms. Klauk is awesome” relayed Ellis on her experience in Geology.  Always wearing a smile, the jubilant Klauk is a fine example of someone who loves their work, and uses this to further the minds of her students.  Often stereotyped as a boring topic, the combination of field trips, geologic exploration, and inspired teaching has made Geology one of the more popular classes at LHS.
