The big break of the day is lunchtime. Everyday is a drag for students, with classes, homework, and teachers. Lunchtime is a time for socializing, it’s a time to eat and relax for the short amount of time scheduled. The lunch policy has changed. Before, students were allowed to wait in line and pay for their lunches at the end of the line. Now, students are to report to the office before school hours begin and put money on their card.
The lunch card is a red piece of construction paper with a student’s name on it. The student then goes to the cafeteria and puts however much money they want on their card for the week. Students have mixed feelings about the new system, senior Karina C. said, “it’s a hassle to get here early in the morning to put money on my card, I’m a busy girl.” On the other hand, Mr. Lucas thinks that this is another good solution for the tardiness. He thinks that if students have to get to school earlier to put money on their cards, then that will solve the tardy problem.
The administration and faculty members thought of the new lunch system. They think that the lines move much faster and it is more private. The only problem with the old system was, “it wasn’t confidential,” Mr. Lucas stated. “A big deal in this school is students who get free lunches. We want those students to remain anonymous for their own reputations.”
