TOUCHDOWN!! That word had been flying around the Reaper Stadium a lot lately. Number 3, Senior Luis A. is an offensive fullback, and also a defensive outside linebacker. Luis has a lot to say about the start of this year’s season. “We plan on being 8-1 at the end of the season. And after that, STATE CHAMPS, once again!” Luis exclaimed.
When asked if there are any good luck rituals that the players do before a game, Luis said, “We just always mess around, it loosens us up for the game.” The team gets together every Thursday night, to have dinner, and just get ready for the game the next day. Luis said, “I think the dinners work, they bring us all together, it’s a bonding time.” Thursday night dinners have been a tradition for many years now. “The difference between this year and the season last year, is that this season is more about us (seniors), when last year the focus wasn’t mainly on us, because we were juniors. It’s nice being noticed more!” Before the players come out for the game, all they do is yell, for no reason, but hey whatever works right??
Luis was asked about how important encouragement from the fans is, and he responded, “It’s nice to hear, but most of the time we are yelling even louder, so we don’t always hear the fans.” He said that the only thing he would honestly change is the fact that there are a lot of people getting hurt, especially so early in the season. Luis explained how he really doesn’t feel any pressure to be as successful as last year’s team, “It would be awesome to win the state championship two years in a row, I want two rings.”
Luis says that he is happy with the way the season has been going so far; he always wants to improve, and learn new things. With eight season wins and only one loss, the Reapers are looking forward to the playoffs. They will be held at home October 26 at 7pm versus Spring Valley Hall.
