Dystopian
‘Unwind’
by Neal Shusterman
The Second Civil
War was fought over reproductive rights and the eventual compromise made was to
have all children be inviolable from the moment of their conception until they
reach the age of thirteen. Their parents can then choose to have them
“unwound.” If so, their body parts will live on other people. The story follows
three young people on their journey for freedom and justice. This compelling
novel is a heart-hammering page turner with incredible character development
and plot progression. You will not be able to put it down.

Fantasy
‘The
Book of Lost Things’ by John Connolly
After the death
of his mother, 12-year-old David seeks refuge in his books that later begin
whispering to him as his family falls apart, causing the line that separates
reality from fantasy to fade. It is then that David is violently thrown into a
world ruled by a faded king and filled with the same characters found in his
books. This enchanting novel takes its readers on a journey that exposes the
road to adulthood and beyond through cleverly twisted fairytales which display
the lasting significance of the people we meet and the stories we hear on the
way.

‘Willow’
by Julia Hoban
After driving
the car that killed both of her parents, Willow is left with an insurmountable
remorse that can only be numbed by physical pain. The blade is the only comfort
she’s ever needed. But when she meets Guy, she begins to see the world through
a different set of eyes, finding a certain comfort that she was unsure ever
existed. In this novel about love, pain, finding yourself and forgiveness,
Hoban tugs at the senses, and gives readers an emotional, beautiful and
unforgettable ride.

premonitions. Soon after, secrets from
the lives of both boys come up, and she is forced to figure out who is lying.
