Filled with high-spirited song and dance numbers, comedic characters, and a twisted plot taking place behind it all, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a fun filled spoof of the 1920’s that Madison High School will proudly present in March.

Freshman Molly Terril will be taking on the lead role of the musical’s dynamic heroine Millie Dillmount, who sets out to New York City in search of a prosperous new (and modern) life for herself from scene one. Terril has found her leading man in Senior Johnny McGuire, who plays the street smart New Yorker Jimmy Smith. The role of dragon-lady villainess Mrs. Meers belongs to Sophomore Jessica Martin, as well as Freshman Robin Weatherman taking on the role of Millie’s lovable and sweet best friend, Miss Dorothy Brown. Senior Brittany Geyer holds the demanding singing role of New York’s famous star (of the musical), Muzzy Van Hossmere. Junior Kris Paxitzis plays the bold, brash businessman that is Millie’s boss, accompanied by the head stenographer of Millie's workplace, the sour and down-to-business (yet comical) Miss Flannery, played by Junior Ashley Ferguson.  Finally, two of the most complicated yet hilarious roles of the show will be occupied by Senior Seth Treadway (Ching Ho) and Junior Austin Sparkman (Bun Foo). The characters are Chinese brothers working under the devious Mrs. Meers, but their roles require one great task: Speaking in a different language for most of the show! Amy Brannon, a director of the show, says with a laugh that it will be “worth the cost of admission to see Johnny and Austin speak Mandarin Chinese”.

Within the next two months of practices, the cast, crew, and directors will be preparing to take on three performances on March 27th, 28th, and 29th. Directors Brandi Robertson and Amy Brannon are confident that the cast will fulfill their expectations. “I think we had huge talent come out for auditions this year”, Robertson said. “A lot of new talent and talented kids.”

Although the musical is still fairly new on Broadway with a premiere date of April 15th, 2002, Madison is sure to make the show their own and entertain audiences from the overture to curtain call. With the hilarity of the unforgettable characters, fast and jazz- filled dance routines, romance, and a New York City setting that the 1920’s took by storm, Thoroughly Modern Millie is guaranteed to offer something for everyone this March.
