Almost everyone who has ever completed high school will say that their senior year of high school was one of the best years of their school career, and quite possibly the best year of their life. Everyone knows that you have to work hard for many years to earn the title of a senior, but you also have to have deep pockets.
There are many expenses that come with being a senior. These expenses could include: cap and gowns, senior t-shirts and hoodies, graduation announcements, school fees, the senior trip, the senior-faculty games, yearbooks, senior key chains, senior prom, senior keys, college applications, senior pictures, a graduation party, and keeping a car in working condition, among many others.
The senior debt starts off small, but many expenses tend to add up quickly. Since the senior keeps their caps and gown from graduation, they pay a minimal fee. Also, with the many senior events and memorabilia, t-shirts and hoodies can cost anywhere from 20-40 dollars. School fees also have a broad range. They can be anywhere from 40 dollars to upwards of 200 dollars. The senior trip is also quite expensive. The New York City trip costed the seniors around 400 dollars this year. The yearbook costs another 65 dollars, even though that is the price that every student has to pay, it is still a senior expense.
Many seniors choose to have senior pictures taken to commemorate the end of high school. Senior pictures can be extremely expensive. The pictures could end up being well over a thousand dollars.
Prom is also a very expensive event. Going to prom includes tuxedo rentals, buying a dress, corsages, boutonnières, transportation to prom, tickets for prom and after prom, hair and nail appointments, dinner, and anything else that the senior feels in necessary for prom.
College applications for state-funded universities can range from $20 up to $70. Tuition is expensive, but the price of books, lab fees, parking and other minor fees quickly add up. Also, if a senior is living on campus their freshman year of college, they will be purchasing dorm accessories to add to the already high room and board fee.
Many seniors will take out student loans to compensate the cost of futher education.
