Thankfully, today society has cast away the shadows overbearing the people who want to believe in something, not just God. Even though there are still scant examples of religious persecution, there has been a drastic change in religious freedom.

Compared to the restrictions placed on society by religion in past generations to today’s society, anyone could immediately see drastic changes. When religion was the center of daily life, it was sacrilege to speak out against it, but who were the ministers and their congregation to take away human free will?

The Bible sets guidelines for Ministers, Priests, Reverends, whatever you wish to call them, and they preach to us, the word of God. In the past generations, it was blasphemy not to show up for church every Sunday, whilst in today’s community, it is acceptable, since people lead more fulfilled lives. In the past, you could be condemned a Witch for anything if it hinted towards going against the word of God. Of course, nothing you could say got you out of it and many innocents perished because of silly superstitions. Also, if you placed your belief in something else, you were basically a heretic and heathen.

No longer do people need to worry about being accused a Witch and hanging for it, or being thrown from his or her community. People today are a lot more tolerant of differed viewpoints diverse from their own. This is what makes Americans liberated, for we are free in spirit and mind, because we may choose where to place our hope.
