Puppies, similar to babies, require a lot of work, energy and responsibility. So, are you really ready to have one?

I just recently acquired a new puppy alongside my boyfriend. Let me tell you, it is not as easy as you think. I have to wake up every morning at 5:30, when she starts crying and barking, to take her out of her kennel and feed her. Then I have to pick up any mess she makes and watch her every second so she doesn’t bite or destroy anything. It takes a lot of my attention. I already feel like she is taking over my spare time. I find myself going to the store and buying puppy food and toys now, instead of stuff for myself like before. When my boyfriend comes to my house, he takes over and helps out with her. Playing, feeding her and cleaning after her is a lot to do and sometimes it becomes hard for us.

Now, I am not saying that I hate it or I have regrets. We were ready for the responsibilities when we got her. But the question is, are you?

Puppies are hard work and they need your attention, they won’t just entertain or feed themselves. So before you buy a puppy, or any animal, think twice about what it takes. It may be too much for you, especially if you are used to just taking care of yourself and not worrying about anyone else depending on you. It can get frustrating or overwhelming. Is that really what you want?
