AP is a step above Honors. It separates the boys from the men, figuratively speaking. This class is a way where a student is able to receive college education and possibly college credit if they pass the exam. So what exactly is AP?
AP, short for Advanced Placement, is a program created by the College Board back in 1955. The Advanced Placement Program teaches various subjects in high school classrooms, taught at a college level. Subjects range from Art History to Japanese Language and Culture; even Statistics!
Exactly how do you receive the possible college credit for this class? Easy, you pass the annual AP examination. For a small fee of approximately $83, students can take this exam in selected subject(s) and see if they have what it takes to pass a college class. Depending on where you live and your school district, this fee can be higher or lower; some districts even offer it for free.
In the end, AP classes are a challenge to the high school student. Those who wish to participate in these classes need to come in with an open mind to difficulty and want to better themselves academically. So, are you ready for the challenge?
